What is lip oil and how to use it.
In case you missed it, our new Clinique Pop™ Lip + Cheek Oil in Black Honey is back, and it's here to stay. The latest addition to the Black Honey family, our trending lip oil delivers the same, suits-all berry shade, in a new hydrating oil texture. Combining the glassy shine of a gloss with hydrating skincare ingredients and a subtle tint, it’s perfect for creating a barely-there, clean girl makeup look – you can even use it on cheeks, too.
More than a passing trend, lip oil is the low-maintenance makeup-skincare hybrid you didn’t know you needed – and now it's part of our permanent collection. So, if you’re wondering what lip oil does, or how to use lip oil, we’ve got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know about lip oil.
Essentially, a lip oil is a skincare-makeup hybrid that blurs the lines between a lip gloss, balm and treatment. It gives you a shiny, glassy finish without any stickiness, while also nourishing and protecting dry lips with a blend of conditioning oils. Our new Limited-Edition Clinique Pop™ Lip + Cheek Oil is infused with safflower seed oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, sunflower seed oil and castor oil.
Just like the rest of our skin, our lips are vulnerable to daily dehydrators. Everything from harsh temperatures to stress can cause dry, chapped lips, in need of some serious TLC. Infused with a comforting oil blend, lip oils provide a layer of hydration, helping to soothe, nourish and prevent dryness. You can also apply a lip oil over a balm or treatment (try Moisture Surge™ lip) to help lock in all that hydrating goodness.
Can you use lip oil on cheeks?
Yes, we specifically formulated our new black honey lip oil to work on cheeks too, creating a full Black Honey look. The lightweight non-sticky oil slips on to cheeks with ease, providing a sheer wash of flattering, on-trend burgundy colour and a natural dewy look. To apply on cheeks, simply dot on the apples and blend into skin with fingertips.
If you’re wondering what’s the difference between a lip oil and a lip gloss, it mostly comes down to texture. While both provide a shiny finish, lip glosses typically have a thicker, sticky consistency that coats the lips, while lip oils have a lightweight, non-sticky texture. Typically a lip gloss wouldn’t contain as many nourishing ingredients, but Clinique lip glosses are infused with skincare actives to provide comforting hydration, so if you’re choosing between a Black Honey gloss, lipstick or oil – it really just comes down to your preferred texture and finish.
Which Black Honey lip product should I choose?
There are three Black Honey lip formulas to choose from. Black Honey lip oil delivers a dewy, sheer finish in a lightweight, non-sticky oil texture; Pop Plush™ Creamy Lip Gloss in Black Honey Pop offers a juicy, high-shine finish with a touch of shimmer and the original Almost Lipstick in Black Honey has more of a balmy texture, offering a sheer slip of the suits-all shade.
How to use lip oil.
Our lip oil is so easy to apply – one swipe provides a sheer, hydrating wash of the iconic shade and a sheer finish. The soft tapered applicator is also ideal for on-the-go application, so you can reapply as needed. You can also layer Clinique Pop™ Lip + Cheek Oil in Black Honey over your favourite lip colour or liner – we love to layer it over the original Almost Lipstick in Black Honey for a more intense colour payoff. You can also give the double glossing trend a try for a super juicy effect – start with either a hydrating lip balm or treatment, then top with lip oil.
